A Weather Eye

Prompt 4: Five word challenge… of sorts.

Pick one or some of the Scots words and include them in a piece of writing.
Or: Make up your own word to describe your favourite weather (phenomenon).

Gowstie (adjective) – dreary, ghastly, dismal, eerie, desolate
doister (noun) – a stormy wind blowing in from the sea
feefle (verb) – to swirl, as of snow around the corner
gloamin (noun) – evening twilight, dusk
rumballiach (adjective) – tempestuous, stormy, used of either weather or temperament
scourie (adjective) – of weather: blustery with rain, wet and squally
ralliach (adjective) – of the sea: choppy, showing signs of an approaching storm
loom (noun) – the indistinct appearance of anything seen through a haze or at a great distance, a haze or fog

I thought I saw the neighborhood cat through the loom of the glass window. The gowstie day today, as well as yesterday, has me in a lazy, anxiety ridden mood I am concerned that I haven’t seen my cuddle buddy today or yesterday, during the cold and dreary past two days. “Where is Smokie,” I would ponder? That is the name my niece, Riley, gave the charcoal cat with piercing yellow, somewhat green eyes. My inside cats are not very nice to him. They only growl as a means to appear like they are protecting me. Yet they are unable to understand me when I say, “Monti, Tux, please don’t holler at Smokie. The cat is just hungry and in need of hugs and kisses and cuddles.” Otherwise, I probably would have Smokie inside to get dry and warm. I pray that he is safe somewhere and protected from harm. Since he is a neighborhood cat, hopefully, he has found that place I pray for him. Hopefully, he is well-fed, warm, and loved by one of my friendly neighbors. When the weather clears up, maybe I will see Smokie again, walking on the railing of my deck in need of some more cuddles.

Until Next Time,

Heidi💜
