Rediscovering Childhood Freedom: Embracing Life’s Joys

#WDYS # 322

I have the answer to experiencing the joy of childhood as an adult. They say time goes by when you are having fun. I believe it. My childhood went by fast. I had fun as a child. Some of the things I would never do now without fear. Like reaching for kittens under the foundation of my grandma’s smokehouse. Swimming under the pier at the river. Climbing in the loft of an old decaying barn with the floor missing in places. Splashing in mud puddles. Crawling through drain pipes. Some say these things were done because I didn’t know any better. Me? I say I did those things because of freedom. I had a great childhood.

Some things change when you become an adult. Like the freedom of childhood. The excitement of the world somehow becomes dim. That light of excitement almost seems to burn out from many years with many experiences. It’s not all our fault. Sometimes when we feel discouraged we have to look for the excitement we felt as children. To me, this is one of those times.

  1. Being young at heart is a good thing. Adulting can take that being young at heart out of the mix.
