Where will we find hope?
The Afrikaans poet M. M. Walters often writes about hope in a grounded, sometimes stark South African context—where hope is not naive, but something that survives despite struggle.
Hope is not loud.
It does not arrive with banners
or promises shouted from rooftops.
It sits quietly
in the hands of those who wait,
who plant, who stay,
who believe—
not because the world is kind,
but because they choose
not to let it end in silence.
