Here’s how it works. Every week I’m going to give you a “teaser” sentence or sentence fragment and your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to build a story (prose or poetry) around that sentence/fragment. It doesn’t have to be the first sentence in your story, and you don’t even have to use it in your post at all if you don’t want to. The purpose of the teaser is to spark your imagination and to get your storytelling juices flowing.

The river had been serene so far, but ahead, their simple raft faced some serious rapids.

It was time for a new adventure. The three friends discussed ideas in hopes of coming to a reasonable conclusion. Ideas such as amusement parks, museums, parks and county fairs. The deciding choice was the Rapids. The next decision was easy for them. The unanimous choice was whitewater rafting kayaking climbing in Banner Elk, North Carolina. They all love being close to the mountains. Now, the choice of where to stay was still on the table. That would be easy too since they all wanted to rent a cabin. https://www.vrbo.com/ looks like a good place to start. Ahh, Sue cheered, maybe we could check out a 3 bedroom and 3 bath deal.
The date was set. All three girls had the week off from work to enjoy their vacations. Bags were packed, their pets had sitters, gages in car checked and filled if needed, gas tanks full and a good breakfast before heading to the mountains. Anna asked her friends, “should we buy groceries now before we leave?” Courtney rolled her eyes saying, “no, we have everything packed in the trunk and I do not think another thing can fit back there. We can buy groceries in Banner Elk.”
Gearing up the morning of their scheduled white water rafting trip, they made sure they had their water shoes, and the outfit; a bathing suit they had on. No other clothes were needed. Lunch would be provided. They met the other people on the tour, and the guides which were full of jokes. Arriving at the water to get on the rafts, each person was given a lifejacket. Safety was mandatory. The three girls shared their raft with a family of four. A mom, dad and two teenage girls. They began their journey on the river. The river had been serene so far, but ahead, their simple raft faced some serious rapids. Each occupant of the raft enjoyed the tour. There were so many laughs. Courtney, Sue and Anna said their goodbyes to all their new friends they met on the white-water rafting tour and agreed to stay in touch by exchanging phone numbers and addresses with them. All the girls were so tired from their adventurous day. On the drive to their cabin rental each girl shared their favorite experience with each other in hopes that the drive, even though it was short, ensured Sue the driver would stay awake and alert. Courtney shared how she would love to book a white-water rafting tour next year for their vacations. Anna chimed in and suggested they all eat cereal for supper that they bought from the grocery store when they arrived. All three girls laughed and agreed.
